Types of hosting
- Shared: many sites on one server. Cheapest, fine for small sites
- VPS: your own slice of a server with guaranteed resources
- Cloud: resources that scale up and down as needed
- Dedicated: a whole server for you
What the specs really mean
CPU cores, RAM and fast SSD or NVMe storage matter more than "unlimited" claims. Look for a free SSL certificate, daily backups and a data-centre location close to your visitors.
The renewal trap
Many hosts advertise a low first-year price that rises sharply on renewal. Always check the renewal price before you commit.
